Covatta’s Brinton Lodge was a private residence located in Douglassville, PA until Caleb Brinton purchased the home in 1927. Brinton then turned the house in a “gentleman’s club”. The club ran for many years until 1972 when Hurricane Agnes flooded the area. The Lodge was completely flooded and Brinton lost his whole investment due to a lack of flood insurance on the building. It was left abandoned and in pretty bad shape after the storm. Brinton died in Oct 1974 before he could see the club restored. The Covatta family purchased the crumbling location and turned it into a restaurant during the 80’s. This is when tales of the hauntings began.

A few different spirits make their presence known at the Lodge. The is a Lady in White who seems to be a very friendly spirit. She appears to be wearing a wedding gown and is seen in a second floor mirror and on the stairs. Apparently she caught a pregnant waitress before she fell down the stairs. There is an older female spirit who is extremely protective of the third floor steps and the upper living area. Another spirit is that of a gentleman known as Dapper Dan. He’s mostly seen on the second floor and known as a bit of a “ladies man”. He usually gives women a pinch or blows lovingly into their ear. And, last but not least, is Caleb Brinton himself. He’s known as a “roly-poly” man who always tips his hat to women who visit his establishment. It’s said though that the reason he’s stayed behind is because he’s unhappy that his club is now open to the public and isn’t a place strictly for the elite to meet.

The Brinton Lodge is now open for different events throughout the year. These include holiday and community events, theater productions, music shows, history and ghost tours, and more. Please visit their website at www.brintonlodge.com for more information.
